Man, 21 docked for alleged culpable homicide

Makurdi, June 19, 2017 (NAN) The Police on Monday arraigned one Wueseter Tarvershima, 21, before a Makurdi Area Court 2 for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing hurt, cultism and culpable homicide.

The Police prosecutor, Omaje Ujata told the court that the case was transferred from Katsina-Ala Divisional Police Station to Criminal Investigation Department Makurdi through a letter No AR:3100/BNS/KA/VOL.11/28 dated June 6.

She said that James Msugh, who resides at Thomas Degar Street, Katsina-Ala reported the case at Katsina-Ala Police Station on June 6.

She said that a group of cultist numbering 30 attacked the complainant with machete and injured him on his left hand.

She added that the cultist also injured the younger brother of the complainant named James Ike which led to his death.

The prosecutor said the accused was arrested during investigation with two cutlasses he used in committing the crime.

She added that the accused voluntarily confessed to committing the crime.

Ujata said the offence contravened sections 97, 247, 99 and 222 of the penal code laws of Benue State 2004.

When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The Magistrate, Fatima Akintomide, said that the accused be remanded at the Federal Medium Prisons Makurdi and adjourned the case till Aug, 10 for further mention.
