Jos, Oct. 12, 2016 (NAN) A Federal High Court sitting in Jos on Wednesday sentenced Btrus Agwom of New Fabor in Plateau to three years imprisonment for unlawful possession of Hard drugs.
The judge, Justice Dorcas Agishi, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of possession of narcotic and begged for leniency.
Agishi sentenced the accused to 12 months on the first count and 36 months on the second count charge both without an option of fine.
She said that the two sentences would run concurrently.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Counsel, Ramatu Oketola. had told the court that the convict was arrested on May 12, 2016 by a police patrol team.
Oketola said the offence contravened Section 19 of NDLEA Act, Cap. N30 LFN 2004 (As Amended).
He told the court that since Agwom had owned up to his crime, the court should give him a summary trial and convict him to serve as a deterrent to others.
The prosecutor informed the court that the suspect was a second offender and he even had another case with NDLEA, and urged the court not take the suspect’s plea serious because he seemed to be an unrepentant suspect. (NAN)
