Port Harcourt, Oct. 12, 2016 (NAN) The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has announced that it would end the Credited Advance Payment for Metering Implementation (CAPMI) scheme on Oct. 31.

In a statement in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the Spokesman for the company, Mr John Onyi, said that the decision was in compliance with a directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Onyi said that PHED was committed to providing steady electricity, and had started distributing meters to residents of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Rivers.

“PHED wishes to inform its customers that CAPMI scheme will come to an end on Oct. 31 in line with a directive of NERC.

“Our esteemed customers are, by this notice, advised to stop processing applications under the scheme at any PHED office or through proxy, as we have since stopped collecting payments.

“PHED has embarked on deployment of meters to all customers who have paid under the CAPMI scheme.

“Customers who are yet to be metered are encouraged to be patient as they would be metered within the period,” he said.

Onyi gave the assurance that CAPMI scheme would be replaced by the company’s newly rolled out robust metering plan which was captured under its area-by-area programme.

The spokesman urged electricity consumers to support the company’s drive to meet electricity needs in the four states of its operation. (NAN)
