Daura (Katsina State), June 16, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Abdurrazak Gold, the Principal of Federal Government College, Daura, has  advised students of the school to be of good conduct and  take their studies seriously.

He gave the advice in Daura on Friday while addressing students to mark the International Day of the African Child.

He said the Federal Ministry of Education had mandated unity schools nationwide to observe the day every June 16, with a view to instilling the zeal for education in students.

Gold noted that the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now AFrican Union (AU) made it a policy since 1976 that African nations should dutifully observe the day, stressing that it was traceable to the apartheid in south Africa.

He described education as the bedrock of development of any society, while calling on parents to  be more  committed and dedicated  to the education of their children.

The principal commended the minister of education and President Muhammadu Buhari for their  unique reforms and initiatives in the education sector.

He commended teachers for their efforts in impacting quality teaching to students.

Hafsat Yusuf,  a Senior Secondary two student of the college, described the day as memorable one, and appreciated teachers who stood by them  to excel in their studies.

Highlight of the event was a cultural exhibition, preparation of African foods, and the sight and sounds of Africa.

The AU had set aside June 16 as Day of the African Child to commemorate the brutal killing of about 2,000 South African children who protested against educational deprivation in 1976. (NAN)
