Ibadan, June 15, 2017 (NAN) The new FRSC Sector Commander for Oyo State, Mrs Cecelia Alao, on Thursday  resumed work in Ibadan

Alao, who was the former sector commander in  Akwa Ibom, took over from Mr Yusuff Salam.

Addressing newsmen on resumption, Alao sought the collaboration of the media, corporate bodies, Civil Society Organisations,  Non-Governmental Organisations and the residents  in reducing road traffic crashes.

According to her, the task  of making the roads safe is a collective social responsibility which calls for  greater level of commitment from the media and other stakeholders.

She urged the media not to relent  in collaborating with the command to  amplify  awareness on the commission’s  policies  such as the impending commencement of  psychiatric test by July 1.

“My administration will deploy all resources at its disposal to strengthen professionalism and transparency among officers and men in the state.

“The command shall engage the partnership of state traffic management agencies and other relevant stakeholders in conducting joint patrol operations to examine the pattern of traffic infractions committed by motorists.

“Traffic violators will be apprehended with a view to inculcating good road use culture  which will facilitate the desired behavioural and attitudinal change,’’  Alao said.

According to her,  road traffic crash is one of the leading causes of mortality and life-long disability in Nigeria and  the world.

She said the command would  not  relent  in reversing the  trend by returning Nigeria to its rightful place of having the safest roads by 2020.

“To achieve this task, the command will vigorously pursue the reduction of road crashes via effective enforcement, public enlightenment and  continuous engagement with transport unions among others,” she said. (NAN)
