Bauchi, June 15, 2017 (NAN) Bauchi state government spent 7.1 million on the training of 750 youths to assist people living with HIV/AIDS, the  Commissioner for Social Welfare, Youths and Sports, Mr Ibrahim Madaki, has said.

The commissioner made the statement on Thursday while briefing newsmen in Bauchi.

He said the youths were trained as peer health educators on prevention of the disease and provision of food supplements to the people living with HIV/AIDS.

“The ministry conducted training for 750 youths as peer educators through the State Action Committee on AIDs (SACA) and the sum of N4.7 million was spent.

“The beneficiaries are Okada riders, athletes and voluntary uniform organisation.

“The sum of N2.4 million was spent for provision of food supplement for people living with the virus; you cannot give a patient drugs freely and not ensure proper feeding,” he said.

In related development, Madaki said the ministry in collaboration with Industrial Training Fund (ITF) had trained 500 unemployed youths on different skills.

He said the youths were trained on welding/fabrication, animal rearing, poultry production, information communication technology, computer engineering/repairs and Microsoft word operation and processing, handsets repairs among others.

The commissioner said that another batch of 400 unemployed youths would receive similar training to reduce unemployment in the state. (NAN)
