Lagos, June 15, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded an undergraduate, Ibrahim Okerinde, in Kirikiri Prisons after pleading guilty to a charge of armed robbery.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, said the accused would remain behind bars, pending sentencing.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.
The Prosecutor, Insp Simeon Imhonwa, had told the court that the accused committed the offence at about 12.00 a.m. on May 10 at the campus area of the University of Lagos in Yaba.
He said that the accused conspired with others, still at large, and robbed one Ogundeji Joseph of N100,000 cash, mobile phone and gold chain, all valued at N230,000.
Imhonwa said the accused was armed with a locally made double barrel gun and other dangerous weapons while committing the offence.
He alleged that the accused broke into the complainant’s room, threatening and robbing him of his properties at gun point.
“The complainant was accosted by the accused, who came with a gun, broken bottles and cutlass, and robbed him of his money, phone and jewellery all valued at N330,000.
“He was later apprehended by security guards and handed over to the police,’’ he said.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 295 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The case was adjourned till July 6 for sentencing. (NAN)
