Belgrade, June 14, 2017 (Xinhua/NAN) Although Serbia remains militarily neutral, she is willing to cooperate with NATO, especially when it comes to strengthening stability in the Western Balkans, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, said on Wednesday.

Vucic made the statement during a meeting with Paolo Alli, visiting president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

The two leaders noted that the participation of the delegation from Serbia’s National Assembly at the annual sessions of NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as associate member, would contribute to mutual understanding and trust.

The delegation from Serbia’s National Assembly has been participating in the activities of NATO Parliamentary Assembly as associate delegation since 2007.

In 2015, the individual partnership action plan between the Republic of Serbia and NATO was approved, marking the beginning of cooperation through partnership for peace.

Vucic explained that though Serbia remains militarily neutral; its position was not an obstacle for the development of partnership cooperation with NATO within the partnership for peace mechanisms.

He thanked Kosovo Force (KFOR), the NATO-led international peacekeeping force and applauded NATO for its role as guarantor of security in Kosovo and Metohija.

Metohijia is the southern province that unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, which Serbia refuses to recognise.

During the meeting, Alli expressed support for Serbia’s willingness to preserve the stability and expanding cooperation in the region. (Xinhua/NAN)
