Abuja, June 14, 2017(NAN) Caritas Nigeria, a Faith Based Organisation (FBO) says it is partnering with other faith based institutions to scale up interventions that will impact on the most vulnerable groups in the society.
Rev.Fr Evaristus Bassey, the National Director Caritas Nigeria, said this at the Regional Consultation on Pediatric Care on HIV/AIDs Conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Bassey stated that the partnership would ensure the upscale of interventions that would impact the most vulnerable such as preventable deaths of newborns and children under five years.
“It will improve access and help kids start free, stay free and remain AID’s free in the society.
“All countries were aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to 12 per 1,000 live births and under five mortality to as low as 25 per 1,000 live births.
“Scaling up prevention of mother to child transmission and early infant diagnoses as well as access to treatment will go a long way in achieving the target,’’ he said.
Bassey said the conference was based on an expression of Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), which seeks strengthening the means of implementation and uplifting global partnership.
“The section on multi-stakeholder partnership targets 17.17, with the objective to encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnership.
“It also aims to build on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnership,’’ he said.
According to him, Caritas Nigeria is a relief and developmental agency of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, with a vision to create an environment where everyone enjoys fullness of life.
Bassey added that the mission of the organisation was to advance the wellbeing of all persons, through participatory measures in line with Catholic social teachings.
“If we work fast and build these partnerships, we could end the epidemics of AIDs by 2030, according to the wishes of the multi-national stakeholders of the global agenda. (NAN)
