Carpenter remanded for allegedly causing grevious hurt

Abuja, June 14, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja  on Wednesday  remanded  one Emmanuel Okon arraigned  over alleged criminal force and assault  resulting in  grievous hurt.

Okon, a carpenter, who resides at Karmo, Abuja, however,  denied committing the offences when the charges were read to him.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, refused to grant the defendant bail till the victim recovered from his injuries.

Sadiq consequently adjourned the case until July 5  for further hearing

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu told the court that one Ade Fananmi, of Angwa Shehu,  Karmo, reported the matter on behalf of Sunday Awolola  who was assaulted  at the Karmo Police Station  on June 11.

Dalhatu said that following  the  assault,  Awolola was now lying in critical condition at the hospital.

The prosecutor said that Fananmi explained that a quarrel broke out between Okon and Awolola, resulting in the defendant  allegedly stabbing the victim  with a broken bottle.

Dalhatu said that  Awolola, who was yet to respond to treatment, had incurred a medical bill of N50,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 265 and 247 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
