Man bags 1 month imprisonment for negligent conduct

Abuja, June 14, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a security guard, Salifu Abubakar, to one month in prison for negligent conduct.

Abubakar of no fixed address was arraigned on a one-count charge of sleeping while on duty.

The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave him the option to pay a fine of N10, 000.

Sadiq warned him to desist from negligence, adding that “this punishment will serve as deterrent to other would be offenders’’.

The judge advised the convict to be dedicated to his work.

Abubakar had pleaded guilty to the charge and prayed the court to tamper justice with mercy, adding that he slept off while on duty.

The convict promised to be more dedicated to his work.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Olatunji Oluwaseun of De-mes Properties Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on June 12.

Dalhatu said that the convict, a security guard in the office, neglected his duty and allowed unknown robbers to burgle the office and cart away 42 inch plasma television and two HP laptops valued at N395, 000.

During police investigation, the convict confessed to his negligence conduct.

The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Section 196 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
