Police arraign bricklayer for allegedly breaking into church, attempting to steal

Lagos, June 14, 2017 (NAN) A 32-year-old bricklayer, Tunde Oyebode, who allegedly broke into a church to steal, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Oyebode, who resides in Ijaye area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of intent to commit felony brought before him.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada , the accused committed the offence on June 7 at the Evangelical Church Power of Grace, Meiran, Lagos.

Eruada said the accused broke the wall of the church auditorium with an iron rod, to gain entrance to steal the musical instruments where they were kept.

“Luck ran against him and he was beaten by the people around who caught him in the act and handed him over to the police,’’ he said.

The offence contravened Section 311 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed seven years, if found guilty, according to Section 311.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until June 26, for mention. (NAN)
