Abuja, June 12, 2017 (NAN) Wellington Okoh, one of those aspiring for the South-South slot on the board of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, has promised to use his experience to develop the sport if elected.
Okoh, an ex-boxer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja that his passion to develop boxing influenced his decision to seek a position on the board.
He said he was touched by the poor state of boxing in the country and has been moved into desiring to make a change.
Okoh described the state of boxing in Nigeria as comatose, adding that there was the need to revive and resuscitate it.
“If I am voted into the board, I will work closely with anyone who emerges the President to go back to the drawing board and to the grassroots to get young talents who will take over from the old ones.
“We will go back to the schools, discover talents, train, expose and nurture them very well so as to represent the country in the near future,’’ he said.
The former boxer said he would use his wealth of experience to ensure that Nigeria regained its rightful place in world amateur boxing.
NAN reports that Okoh represented Edo and Nigeria as an amateur boxer between 1979 and 1983, before leaving for the U.S.(NAN)
