Lagos, June 7, 2017 (NAN) A 40-year-old businessman, Oluwaseun Salami, who allegedly defrauded a company of N2.2 million
on pretext of obtaining a loan, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who resides at 7, Adebola Gbadebo St., Ikorodu, Lagos State, is being tried for fraud, obtaining money by
false pretences, and stealing.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, the offences were committed between February 2016 and April 2017 at
Pen Cinema, Agege, a Lagos suburb.
Ajebe said the accused went to Tuboj Savers Enterprises to apply for a loan to execute a project.
“The accused signed that he would pay back the loan in six months in February 2016.
“His request was granted and was given N2.2 million,” he told the court.
The prosecutor noted that five months after the accused collected the money, he gave the company a cheque of N2.2 million.
“On presentation at the bank, the cheque was rejected because of lack of funds, and when the accused was contacted, he
switched off his phone.
“All efforts to see the accused were unsuccessful as he was said to have moved out of his house,’’ the prosecutor said.
Ajebe said the accused was sighted by one of the staff members of the company, who brought him to the police station.
The offences contravened Sections 280, 315 and 322 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, in his ruling, granted the accused a bail of N500,000 with two sureties
in like sum.
Komolafe adjourned the case until June 19 for mention. (NAN)
