Abuja to host `Powering Africa’ conference in September

Abuja, June 5, 2017(NAN) EnergyNet Ltd., a power development company, says 250 stakeholders in the power sector are expected at the 6th edition of the Powering Africa conference to brainstorm on investments strategies in the sector.

A statement by Mr Valeria Aruffo, the EnergyNet’s Regional Manager, North and West Africa, said that the annual Powering Africa conference would be held in Abuja from Sept. 20 to Sept. 22.

He said that it would bring together stakeholders in the country’s electricity supply industry to brainstorm on investments strategies in the sector.

According to him, the conference is a Nigerian private sector-led and finance focused meeting.

He said that the conference was a strategy where knowledge would be shared among investors around the world.

Aruffo said that those expected at the forum also comprise local finance institutions, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), investors, power developers and international financiers.

He said that power developers and international financiers to that would release capital into Nigeria’s transforming power sector would be on hand to talk to stakeholders and potential investors.

Aruffo said that the programme would discuss how to fully support and ensure the transformation of Nigeria’s electricity sector in the medium to long term.

He said that the 2017, event which began in January in Abidjan, would also be hosted in Copenhagen in June.

According to him, topics to be discussed include the Evolution of Nigeria’s Energy Roadmap, Energy Economics for Gas IPPs: Where is Nigeria headed?, Renewable Energy Development – Why Government Should Incentivise.

Others are Finance Re-Capitalising Nigeria Bonds and Power Sector Stakeholders, Energy Infrastructures: Transmission, Distribution and Smart Grids and the Future of Nigeria Energy Mix – Captive Power and Off-Grid.
