Bag-snatcher

Lagos, June 5, 2017 (NAN) A handbag snatcher, 30-year-old Jamiu Muritala, is to spend the next 11 months in prison, a Lagos court ruled on Monday.
Muritala, whose address was not provided, was convicted by an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court for snatching the handbag of the complainant, Florence Mbanuola, at Willougby Street, Ebute Meta.
The Magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, said: “Having found you guilty of the crime of snatching a handbag, I hereby sentence you to a jail term of 11 months without an option of fine.
“Muritala will remain behind bars at the Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, for the next 11 months.”
At his arraignment, the accused had pleaded innocence of the offence allegedly committed in the wee-hours of Oct. 25, 2016.
He was admitted to a bail of N20, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
