Lagos, June 5, 2017 (NAN) A handball coach, Lucas Honvo, has advised budding players to take advantage of facilities at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos, to develop their talents.

Honvo, who works with the Lagos State Handball Association (LSHA), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that coaches were available to train interested players.

He said that the aim was to create opportunities for upcoming players to improve their skills in line with current handball techniques.

“We want our upcoming players to develop in the right direction.

“This requires them to be part of our well-though tout training programmes.

“Rowe Park is a popular place and accessible to many schools in the state.

“LSHA is committed to the progress of its players and making handball a leading sport at the grassroots,’’ Honvo said.

According to him, the sports centre is appropriate for training as it has facilities needed for various categories of players.

He told NAN that the training would take place after school hours to enable players to continue their academic activities.

“Handball has more opportunity in Rowe Park because we have two good courts that help us to run training efficiently.

“Although some of them practise the sport in their schools at break time, it is not enough.

“They need comprehensive training after school hours,’’ he said.

The coach said that through comprehensive training, supervised by knowledgeable coaches, potential of young players would be developed. (NAN)
