Proper antenatal care facilitates safe delivery of 100 babies in Damaturu IDPs camp — Official

Damaturu, June 2, 2017 (NAN) The antenatal care being provided for internally displaced pregnant women has facilitated the safe delivery of 100 babies at the Pompomari IDPs camp in the last two years, an official has said.

Alhaji Musa Jidawa, the Permanent Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Friday.

According to Jidawa, the clinic in the camp in Damaturu, provides 24 hours medical services to every internally displaced person with especial attention to pregnant women.

“The camp clinic provides for all medical needs of the displaced persons and, special attention was given to each and every pregnant woman.’’

The permanent secretary said all the pregnant women in the camp delivered safely with both mothers and babies in healthy condition.

“The camp has put in place adequate measures to avert possible risks and provided those with peculiar needs the necessary services.

“We will continue to accord this a priority to promote safe and healthy delivery in the camp.

“We have also made provision of special diet for those found to be deficient on their arrival to the camp from their communities.’’

Mr Midala Usman, Head, United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) in Yobe, applauded SEMA for providing access to good medical care to the mothers and babies.

Last Thursday, SEMA celebrated the birth of the 100 babies in camp and donated 100 wrappers and baby clothes to each of the 100 mothers and babies.

The agency also provided the children with birth certificates obtained from the National Population Commission. (NAN)
