Benin, May 26, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has given an assurance that his administration is determined to strengthen the 18 Local Government councils for better service delivery.
Obaseki said this on Friday in Benin at a two-day workshop for Heads of Local Governments.
The theme of the workshop is “Reforming Local Government Administration in Edo”.
Obaseki, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, said that the workshop was aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness across all the local governments in Edo.
He said that local governments, as the third tier of government, have the responsibility of bringing development closer to the people.
Earlier, the guest speaker, Prof. Isiaka Aransi, advocated for more power, function and revenue for local governments, to enable them to function effectively.
Aransi said that the present economic situation in the country had made it difficult for them to deliver meaningful projects for the benefit of the people. (NAN)
