Akure, May 24, 2017 (NAN) Prof. Joseph Fuwape, the new Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure,  on Wednesday called for unity among all stakeholders in the institution.

Fuwape made the call  at his inauguration as the seventh  substantive vice-chancellor of  FUTA in Akure.

He said the path to greatness was not for the faint-hearted, but for those with a resolve to achieve a dream.

“I see my appointment as a clarion call to greater responsibility  and service to humanity. It is equally a call to take the lead  in our collective struggle for a better and greater FUTA.

“Today, we start a new chapter in our progress. I urge us all as a community of enlightened people  to allow peace, tranquillity and harmony reign.

“It is only when we allow this to happen that we can focus on being first among equals in Nigeria.

“We have a collective responsibility to take the university to the next level  of becoming a world class university and a centre of excellence,” he said.

Earlier, Sen. Joseph Waku,  the Pro-Chancellor of the university,  congratulated the new vice chancellor  and urged him to take the institution  to greater heights.

“You have an enormous duty to perform with this new office. Take  everyone along, even those that contested with you.

“The duty of a leader is to bring everyone together. I also thank the former VC because we wouldn’t be here without his own contributions,” he said.

He also called on the three unions in the university not to take  the laws into their hands, but should direct any grievance to constituted authorities.

“We must all work together and achieve together,’’ he said.

Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, the outgoing vice chancellor, congratulated his successor,  praising  him for his immense contributions to the institution.

He also lauded the team he worked with for its doggedness  to translate  goals to tangible realities.

“The achievements this administration recorded will not have been possible without the support of men and women of goodwill.

“It can only be told, in modest terms, that during my stewardship, FUTA was able to take the dire leap  by recording resounding success in all facets of academic, human and infrastructural development,” he said. (NAN)
