Lagos, May 24, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, granted bail to a 37-year-old carpenter, Ade Abiona, who allegedly beat-up his sister, thereby inflicting pain on her.
Abiona, who resides at Iju Road, Agege, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.I Raji, who gave the ruling, asked the accused to provide two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
Raji said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Insp George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences on May 19 at his residence.
He said the accused assaulted his younger sister, Mrs Omotunde Dada, when he beat her up, following a disagreement between them.
“He punched the complainant several times on her face and body; causing injuries on her eyes and neck,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 168 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 174 prescribes a three-year-jail term for assault.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate adjourned the case to June 8 for mention. (NAN)
