Ilorin, May 23, 2017 (NAN) Mr Shola Oni, a father to one of the victorious Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)/LALIGA U-15 Youth League on Tuesday lauded the Kwara Government-owned Football Academy (KFA) for awarding scholarship to his son.
Oni told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin that the award came at a time he could no longer pay his son’s school fees in Kwara Football Academy (KFA).
NAN reports that William Oni is a player in the Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC, Ilorin, youth side, who won the U-15 league, tagged “Promises Tournament’’, held in Lagos recently.
The objective of the tournament is to create a youth team in NPFL clubs that will raise a pull of young players that will continually replace the older ones.
The tournament is being handled by the League Management Company (LMC) in conjunction with the authorities of the Spanish League, LALIGA.
The government approved a request by the Academy to award full scholarship to two of the academy’s players who participated in the tournament last week.
Oni told NAN that he was delighted by the award given to his son by the Kwara government.
“This development came at the right time because I had called the academy authorities last week to appeal to them to bear with me for still owing them his school fees.
“I thank the Academy for nurturing my son to have the courage to surmount all odds in Lagos to be a champion,’’ Oni said.
Oni, who gave account of how his son fell in love with football, said William would always be missing at home only to be found playing football.
He said that William would always ask him to take him to KFA when he was younger.
Oni added that when he first approached the academy for admission, William was not taken because there was no junior class in the academy then. (NAN)
