Man, 22, in court over alleged theft of bag, N2,500 cash

Lagos, May 23, 2017 (NAN) A 22-year-old man, Oluwatobi Alani, who allegedly snatched a bag containing a tecno cell phone and N2,500 cash, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Alani, who lives at Agege Area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Mr Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on May 17, at Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, the accused and others still at large, conspired to snatch a bag, containing Tecno L9 plus cell phone and N2,500 cash.
He said that the stolen bag and its content, all valued at N68,000, belonged to Miss Ukamaka Uche .
“The accused tried to escape but was apprehended by a passerby,” Eruada said.
The offences, Eruada said, contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for anyone convicted of stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 14, for mention. (NAN)
