Yola, May 22, 2017 ( NAN) The Adamawa Government on Monday in Yola handed over the Damare Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp to the management of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.

The state Governor, Muhammed Jibrilla, said the development followed the return of peace in the state, which resulted to relocation of IDPs from the NYSC permanent orientation camp to Malkohi camp in the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Martines Babale, Jibrillah lauded the efforts of the committee set up to ensure smooth movement of the IDPs to their homes or area of their choice.

He said the state government was working with human rights organisations to check
rights violations in IDPs camps in the state.

He added that “from what we saw during the inspection of facilities at the permanent NYSC orientation camp, everything is satisfactory.

“We would continue to work with human rights organisations to ensure that there was no complaints of violation in the camps.”

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Abubakar Mohammed, commended the state government for renovating the permanent orientation camp, which, according to him was even better than when it was built new.

Mohammed said the renovation of the camp was an additional support to the scheme by the state government.

It would be recalled that due to insurgency which ravaged the state in the past years, orientation for youth corps members posted to Adamawa were conducted at one time in  Niger, and later Kano, Gombe, Benue and Kogi at other times.

The Adamawa Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Augustine Ayuba, who is also the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state, said “the camp is habitable, as the
environment had been properly fumigated against dangerous reptiles. (NAN)
