Institute launches discussion to promote peaceful coexistence in returnee communities

Damaturu, May 22, 2017 (2017) The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, on Monday, organised discussion for stakeholders to promote peace in returnee communities displaced by Boko Haram insurgency in Yobe.

The Director General of the institute, Prof. Oshita Oshita, said in Damaturu at the launch of the discussion that it was to generate practical solutions to possible conflicts as the people returned to their communities.

Represented by Mr Chukwuemeka Mba, a Director in the institute, Oshita
said “the stakeholders cut across religious, ethnic and political borders to give everyone a true sense of belonging.

“You are to carefully deliberate on issues that will promote peace, security and development of the communities.”

He said the institute and other partners established peace volunteer groups in Taraba and Adamawa and would replicate same in Yobe.

Mr Gabriel Idoko, the UN Commission for Human Rights (UNCHR) officer in the state, said the outcome of the deliberations would add to the growing peace and security in the state.

“Your contributions will no doubt add to the environment of normalcy
returning to the state”, Idoko said. (NAN)
