Police arraign four men over alleged membership of gang of thieves

Abuja, May 22, 2017 (NAN) The police on Monday arraigned four men in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for alleged membership of gang of thieves.

The defendants- Balami Yaks, 32; Tony Joseph,30; Lawal Musa, 25; Sanusi Ado, 32, all jobless and of no fixed addresses, denied committing the offences.

The prosecutor, Samuel Sawa, said that on May 8, a police patrol team attached to National Mosque, Abuja, arrested and brought the defendants to the Wuse Police Station.

He said that the defendants were caught at late hours in a dark spot within the National Mosque area, Abuja.

The prosecutor said that the defendants were found with some phones, bags, wristwatches and two sharp knives.

Sawa said that during interrogation, the defendants could not give satisfactory explanation of what they were doing and why they had knives on them.

He said that the offence contravened Section 306 of the Penal Code.

The Magistrate, Fatima Bukar, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100, 000 each, with a reliable surety each in like sum.
She then adjourned the case till June 21, for hearing. (NAN)
