Zaria (Kaduna State), Oct. 10, 2016 (NAN) The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) on Monday advised the Zazzau Emirate Council to ensure that Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) emerged the best African university in research and development.

Its Acting Registrar, Prof. Shafi’u Abdullahi, gave the advice while presenting an award he received from the University of Morocco to the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The award is tagged: “Honorary Award of Excellence on Promoting Arabic Education in Nigeria”.

Abdullahi said there was need for establishing an advisory committee on the university to make it a centre of excellence in all fields of research and development in Nigeria and Africa.

“This committee, if established, will seek to promote research and development as well as science education. That’s what makes many nations great.

“We must, therefore, borrow a leaf, if we want the university to be supplying the country with breakthrough research findings.

“This, I believe will generate a lot of money to the university, apart from making it more famous globally, as it will certainly propel technological advancement,” the don said.

Abdullahi explained his name was nominated from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the award, and that was what prompted him to attend the ceremony.

The acting registrar said an unidentified Lagos-based businessman, noted for sponsoring students to study various courses in Morrocco, and a former ambassador to Morocco, were the two other recipients of the award.

Responding, the Emir described the award as a well-deserved one and lauded the professor for the gigantic work he had been doing toward promoting Arabic in Nigeria.

Idris said the award was not only meant for the recipient but the entire Zazzau Emirate. (NAN)
