Edicha, Agawawu elected into badminton federation board

Abuja, May 19, 2017 (NAN) Ocholi Edicha and Bolaji Agawawu have been elected as representatives of athletes and the technical bodies respectively on the board of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the elections, which were held at the Abuja National Stadium on Friday, involved three contestants.

Edicha, who was part of Nigeria’s team at the 2002 and 2010 editions of the  Commonwealth Games, was elected with eight votes as against three votes for his opponent.

As for Agawawu, he was a unanimous candidate to represent the coaches and referees bodies on the board.

After the elections, Olusoji Akanmu, the Federation’s Assistant Secretary, described the elections as successful and thanked God for His leadership.

“Even though the notice for the elections was short, but we thank God that with the understanding of all participants, everything was successful.

“The election of umpires/coaches representative was a unanimous decision.

“There was a consensus candidate who emerged after all the umpires and coaches agreed that the outgoing technical representative was a coach, and this time an umpire should take over.

“This decision was very helpful and and we had a smooth election. For the athletes since they could not agreed we had to go to the polls,” he said.

Speaking on his election, Edicha pledged to ensure that players would be taken into consideration in major decisions by the BFN board.(NAN)
