Ilorin, May 19, 2017 (NAN) Coach Henry Makinwa of ABS Football Club of Ilorin FC says his team needs to start the second round of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with victory.
Makinwa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ilorin that they must approach the league’s second stanza with all seriousness as they face El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri.
ABS FC take on the Desert Warriors in a week 20 match at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin on Sunday as the league’s final round kicks off.
Makinwa, a former player of Real Sociedad of Spain, said he has already challenged his players to put on the character of a champion for the rest matches of the league.
“The league is very tough this year, so you must take your chances as they come, or else you will find yourself in a difficult position.
“We started very well from the start, but results were not coming at a time we needed to keep our heads up.
“Even though, we didn’t end the first round badly, we want to improve and be consistent in the final round of the league.
“We have made some additions to the squad and I hope they will respond to our plans,” he said.
NAN reports that ABS FC finished the first half of the league with 25 points from 19 points and placed 12th on the table.(NAN)
