2 labourers bag 1 month imprisonment each for stealing cell phone

Abuja, May 17, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced two labourers, Peter Ojo, and Richard Essien, to three months imprisonment each for stealing a cell phone Valued at N8, 500.

Ojo, 24, of Ifesinachi Park and Essien, 23, of Gwako Gwagwalada, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of joint act and theft levelled against them.

The judge, Mr Abubakar sadiq, however, gave the convicts N5, 000 option of fine each, and warned them to be of good behaviour and desist from committing crimes after serving out their sentences.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Dalhatu Zannah, informed the court that on April 4, one Tochukukwu Ojobo of Ekukumam Street Utako, reported the matter at Utako Police Station.

Zannah said that the convicts committed the offences on May 14 at about 5.p.m. at Ifesinachi Park, Utako.

He also said that the complainant gave the convicts his bus to wash within premises, but they formed criminal intention and stole his phone, valued at N8,500.

She said when the convicts were caught, they denied committing the offences, until the complainant raised an alarm.

The prosecutor said that the convicts were arrested and they confessed to the crime.

The offences contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
