Electrician, 26, charged with stealing friend’s N40,000 in his possession

Lagos, May 17, 2017 (NAN) For allegedly stealing his friend’s N40,000 given to him to keep, a 26-year-old electrician, Ahmed Sanni, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Sanni, who lives in Agege area of Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clement Okuoimose, the accused committed the offences on April 8 at 60, Market St., Agege.

He said the accused stole N40,000 belonging to his friend, Mr Abdukudus Abduraheem, which he gave to him to keep.

“The complainant, who wanted to use the money for a pressing need, gave it to the accused for safe keeping as he may be tempted to spend it.”

“The complainant could not get his money the day he needed it because the accused had converted the money to his own.”

The offence contravened section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mr I.M. Dan-Oni, adjourned the case until May 25 for mention. (NAN)
