Bauchi  May 14, 2017(NAN) Village Head of Wundi in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State,  Malam Musa Umar, said on Sunday that his community was in dire need of  access road linking the village to Dass, the local government headquarters.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that they had been losing pregnant women on transit to access health facilities in Dass due to lack of good road.

According to him, pregnant women at the stage of delivery hardly withstand the stress in transporting them to Dass, as a result of which some of them die on transit.

“We lost about six pregnant women on transit from January to April; two delivered before they died while four died along with the pregnancy due to bad road.

“These women attend ante natal clinics in the village clinic but during delivery, we find it difficult to move them to the appropriate health facility in Dass; some of them manage to make it while we lost some.

“Health workers in the village clinic cannot handle most delivery cases, as such we had to transport women in labour to Dass for medical attention.

“Because of the bad road, the best means of transportation to Dass are donkies but it is not possible to carry a women battling with labour pains on a donkey,” he lamented.

He therefore appealed to the authorities concerned to come to their aid, to reduce the maternal mortality rate in the village. (NAN)
