Lagos May 11, 2017 (NAN) A 25-year-old bricklayer accused of conducting himself in a riotous manner in a Lagos hotel and beating up some customers, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Azeez Ayeni, who resides in Power Line area of Amikanle, Alagbado in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on April 11, at Royal Palace Hotel, Amikanle, Alagbado, Lagos.
Eruada alleged that the accused drank some bottles of an alcoholic drink called `Alomo’, smoked hemp in front of the hotel, and then started misbehaving.
“He beat up customers at the hotel and forcefully collected their belongings,’’ the prosecutor said.
Eruada said the owner of the hotel reported the matter at the police station and the accused was arrested with some wraps of hemp on him.
The offence contravened Section 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011,
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 166 stipulates a fine of N15, 000 for first offence, and for every subsequent offence N45, 000 or three-month imprisonment, or both.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs G.O Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 17 for mention. (NAN)
