Lagos, May 12, 2017 (NAN) A Lagos monarch, Oba Munirudeen Yusuf, has commended the people of Onigbongbo for the peace and progress recorded over the past 10 years of his reign in the area.

The traditional ruler gave the commendation on Friday while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the 10th anniversary of his coronation as the Oba of Onigbongbo, Ikeja.

Yusuf said that the community had recorded several feats in the areas of education, health, dispute resolution, security and public infrastructure in the last decade.

According to the royal father, the strategic location of Onigbongbo community between Ikeja and Maryland had quickened its development among ancient Awori settlements in Lagos.

“Our health centre has been upgraded and operates for 24 hours and we have drugs and other health materials supplied regularly,” he said.

According to him, the Onigbongbo community has also overcome the problem of erratic power supply with the provision of new transformers in the area.

The Oba noted that there was no more security challenges in the community because of its close proximity to army and police barracks.

“We are the host community to Ikeja Military Cantonment and the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters is close by too, so this has helped us greatly in terms of security.

“With the help of philanthropists, individuals, organisations and religious bodies, several boreholes have been dug in different locations within the community to boost accessibility to portable water.

“I have taken it upon myself to ensure that all these facilities are properly maintained,” the monarch said.

He commended the Lagos State Government and Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area for the road rehabilitation projects and appealed for the provision of street lights to curb crimes in the community.

He also called on the state government to construct pedestrian bridge from Wasinmi village to Onigbongbo town to ease crossing of the expressway by school children.

Oba Yusuf said that the community was in need of a town hall, police post and an ultra-modern palace befitting of the community.  (NAN)
