Abduction

Ile-Ife (Osun), May 10, 2017 (NAN) An Osun Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Wednesday remanded a 30-year-old labourer, Linus Joseph, for alleged abduction of a 16-year-old girl.
The Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 1 at Oke-Ogbo Area of Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the accused abducted one Blessing Michael, 16, and took her to an unknown destination.
He said the offence was contrary to Section 361 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of abduction.
The defence counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, pleaded for bail on liberal terms, saying the accused would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Dorcas Ajiboye, granted the accused N200, 000 bail with one surety each in like sum.
Ajiboye added that the surety, who must be a blood relation and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, should swear to an affidavit of means as well as submit two recent passport photographs.
She stated further that the surety should produce three years tax clearance while his address must be verified by court officials.
The accused was, however, remanded in prison as he could not perfect his bail conditions.
The case was adjourned till June 16 for hearing. (NAN)
