Eket (Akwa Ibom) May 8, 2017 (NAN) Eket Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom, has commenced training of over 200 women on skill acquisition to enable them become self reliant.

The transition chairman of the council, Mr Frank Archibong, made the announcement on Monday in Eket while declaring the event open.

He said that the training was in line with the policy of the state government of engaging women in the development of the state.

He said that women have vital roles to play in the micro economic development of the nation, hence the need to engage them through proper training for mass production of essential commodities.

He said that the beneficiaries would be trained for two months on beads making, baking of cake, make-up, handcraft and other trades.

Archibong said: “the training will compliment the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme of the wife of Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom.

“It is geared at empowering the women to be self reliant and acquire means of livelihood.

“It is also aimed at getting the women off the street by properly engaging them to do something with their hands.’’

He said that at the end of the training, the women would be giving various starter packs to commence their business.

He advised the beneficiaries to pay attention to the training and see it as life line and opportunity to better their lots and that of the family.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rose Ekanem thanked the council chairman for his benevolence.

She promised that she and the other beneficiaries would make good use of the training.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Patricia Udoh, promised to use the opportunity to better her lot and that of her family. (NAN)
