Abuja, May 8, 2017 (NAN) An FCT High Court, Kubwa, has ordered the remand of Hassan Mohammed, 20, in prison until he secures the service of a lawyer before the date of his arraignment.

Mohammed is facing a three-count charge bordering on armed robbery.

The presiding Judge, Justice Kezziah Ogbonnaya, gave the order on Monday in Abuja.

Ogbonnaya ruled that if the suspect could not secure the service of a lawyer, it was his right for the government through the state counsel to get one for him.

She adjourned the matter until May 22, for arraignment.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Mr O.M. Atoge, prayed the court to allow the suspect be remanded in prison in the interest of justice.

He told the court that since his arrest, the suspect had been in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Atoge also asked the court to grant a short date for adjournment as the suspect had no counsel to represent him. (NAN)
