Abuja, May 4, 2017 (NAN) Malam Femi Jariyi, the Chief of Kpaduma community in the FCT, has warned the residents to prevent their livestock from straying into farmlands as rainy season sets in.

Jariyi gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said the warning became necessary to avoid clashes between farmers and owners of livestock as well as to protect farmlands.

“Livestock should be kept in an enclosed place to prevent roaming and destruction of farmlands, especially as the rainy season commences.”

He said that the leadership of the community had given the residents 15 days deadline (May1 to May15) to erect structures for their livestocks.

He warned that the owner of any animal found loitering around at the end of the deadline would be sanctioned according to the law.

Jariyi also urged the residents to keep their environment clean and healthy to prevent the spread of diseases.

“It is necessary to keep the environment clean and germ-free to prevent the spread of diseases caused by dirty environment,” he said. (NAN)
