Lagos, April 28, 2017 (NAN) A 44-year-old auto mechanic, Ajifowose Samuel, was on Friday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of N700, 000.
Samuel, a resident of No. 2, Pakuro St., Mowe in Ogun on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, is facing a charge of stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
But the prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offence at No. 3, Abiodun Bada St., River Valley Estate, Ojodu, Lagos, sometime in April 2015.
He said the accused sold a car valued at N700,000 belonging to the complainant, Mr Akindinku Fisayo, and appropriated the money.
Perezi said the complainant gave an unregistered Honda City car to the accused to help him to sell.
“Samuel sold the car and refused to remit the money to the complainant.
“He converted the money to personal use and absconded, and all efforts to reach him were unsuccessful until he was recently apprehended by the police.”
The offence contravened Sections 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised)
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three years imprisonment for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
The sureties should show evidence of tax payment for at least two years to the Lagos State Government, she said.
She adjourned the case until May 2 for mention. (NAN)
