Abuja, April 27, 2017 (NAN) A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced Ernest Ibrahim and Musa Abubakar to four months imprisonment each, for stealing a cell phone from a driver, while sleeping inside his vehicle.
Ibrahim and Abubakar were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on joint act and theft, which contravened Section 79 and 287 of the Penal code.
The judge, Hassan Ishaq, however, gave the convicts an option of N10, 000 fine each.
Ishaq also ordered the Police to release the stolen item to the complainant immediately.
The convicts had admitted committing the offence.
Earlier, prosecutor Mahmud Ismail, told the court that the defendants were reported at the Nyanya Police Station by one Sunny Gami on April 26.
Ismail alleged that Ibrahim and Abubakar connived and stole a techno cell phone from the complainant, while sleeping inside his car parked by the road side.
The prosecutor said that during investigation, the phone was recovered from convicts. (NAN)
