Business man in court for allegedly receiving stolen property

Abuja, April 27, 2017 (NAN)The Police on Thursday arraigned a 45-year-old man, Garuba Isah, at a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly receiving stolen property.
The defendant, who resides at Kado village, is standing trial on a count charge of receiving stolen items.
The prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, told the court that one Odunayo Bello of Citec Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on March 30.
Obatomi alleged that the complainant said the defendant, on the said date, received the stolen items valued at N1.6 million, from one Amir Ali, who had since been charged to court over alleged theft.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 319 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and alleged that he was not aware they were stolen property.
Counsel to the defendant, Kingsley Eze, applied for his bail and assured the court that he would not jump bail.
The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250, 000 and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till May 16, for hearing. (NAN)
