Abuja, April 26, 2017 (NAN) The FCT chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) in partnership with C-Stemp, a private company, on Wednesday inaugurated a training programme for 1,000 artisans and craftsmen in Abuja.
Mr James Ogbagha, chairman, FCT chapter of NIOB, said at the 2017 Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the branch in Abuja, that the training was to sanitise FCT building sector.
The conference with the theme: “ Construction Industry Development: Roles of Government, Professional Institutions and Clients”, also witnessed the inauguration of the training programme.
According to him, the artisans and craftsmen are under our direct supervision of the institute as stipulated in the National Building Code.
“It is therefore important for us to sanitise the sector by training and creating a data base of certified artisans and craftsmen.
“This way, we will be having a pool of qualified artisans in the FCT that can be easily reached and at the same time save the country a huge capital flight,” he said.
He said the branch had supported student bodies to ensure sustainability and positioning of the institute for greater achievement in the future.
The chairman said the visit of the branch to Kaduna and Nasarawa Polytechnics was targeted at galvanizing and sensitizing the minds of building students to achieve success in the profession.
“ In the coming year, we intend to carry this gospel of the building profession to more tertiary institutions as well as secondary and primary schools in the FCT,” he said.
In his remark, Mr Bala Kaoje, the Chairman of the Conference, commended the FCT chapter of the NIOB for the event.
Kaoje, a former President of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, said the training programme was a step in the right direction to ensure quality project execution in the FCT.
He urged the leadership of the branch to strengthen its collaboration with other professionals in the building industry to enhance knowledge sharing. (NAN)
