Abuja security guard faces N2.5m building materials theft charge

Abuja, April 25, 2017 (NAN) A 45-year-old security guard, Auwal Salisu, was on Tuesday charged before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing building materials worth N2.5 million.

The accused, who resides at Kado Life Camp Extension, Abuja, is standing trial on charge of theft.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

But Prosecutor Judith Obatomi told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 17 at Life Camp.

She said a man, Ochigbano Abu of Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, reported the incident at the Life Camp Police Station on April 17 that the accused stole marine boards valued at N2. 4 million and iron rods worth N80, 000.

Other items alleged to have been stolen by the accused include bamboo sticks valued at N90, 000 and granite worth N1, 000, all valued at N2. 5 million.

The offences contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation.

Counsel to the accused, Mr  Isaac Matthew, urged the court to grant him bail, saying he will not jump bail.

The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with a surety in like sum, who must be a blood relation.

In addition, the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

Further hearing has been adjourned until May 15. (NAN)
