Lagos, April 25, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) on Tuesday said that the country’s representatives for the 8th African Armwrestling Championships will be selected from a national invitational trials.
The federation’s President, Olatunji Jackson, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the trials would hold from June 12 and end on June 18 in Lagos.
NAN reports that the African Armwrestling Championships is slated for June 28 to July 2 in Lagos.
No fewer than 16 African countries are expected to converge on Lagos for the competition.
“It will be an invitational competition because we want to select the very best for this competition.
“We will invite armwrestlers from across the 36 states to participate in the trials. As a host country, we are planning to have a formidable team.
“This is the first time Nigeria is hosting a competition and it’s a big deal for you. We are all working assiduously to ensure that it’s a success,’’ he said.
Jackson, however, urged the armwrestlers who would eventually be invited to the trial to put in their best to make the team.
“It is only through hard work they can make the team. There won’t be wild card for anyone because we are promoting hard work,’’ he said. (NAN)
