Culverts

Awe (Nasarawa State) April 24, 2017(NAN) Awe Local Government in Nasarawa State has spent N20 million to construct five culverts to ease movement in rural settlements, according to its Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Jada.
Jada made the disclosure on Monday in Awe, when members of the House of Assembly Committee on Works, led by the chairman, Mr Mohammed Okpoku-Udege, visited the projects sites.
He thanked Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for releasing funds for more culverts and bridges, saying that the projects would open the hinterlands for development to flourish.
“The projects will connect different communities and reduce the hardship faced in daily movements.
“It will also boost economic activities and ensure good prices for agricultural yields,” he said.
He said that good roads, bridges and culverts would aid the fight against poverty, crime, unemployment, youth restiveness and also improve the revenue base of the area.
Earlier, Okpoku-Udege had said that the inspection tour was to ensure that the construction of bridges and culverts was carried out according to specifications.
The legislator thanked Al-makura for releasing funds for the projects, and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work.
“We are satisfied and happy with the quality of work done here; the job is very good. The chairman has been effective in his supervisory role and we find this very impressive,” he said.
He said that the bridges and culverts would reduce the hardship of the rural dwellers by connecting them with other communities to ease business activities. (NAN)
