Lagos, April 21, 2017 (NAN) The Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), Mr Muminu Badmus, on Friday, reassured  residents of the area that the water it supplied to them was safe for consumption.

Muminu gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.

He promised that the corporation would continue to ensure uninterrupted supply of potable water across the state.

His assurance followed a newspaper report that the water produced and supplied by the corporation in Bariga area of Lagos contained alum and was unsafe for consumption.

According to him, water from the corporation is safe for consumption, as it is produced in conformity with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) standard.

”There is no alum in the water being supplied to residents in any part of Lagos especially in Bariga area.

”Our Quality Assurance Department has collected samples of the water in some areas of Bariga, where it was alleged that the water contained alum.

“The samples were taken to the laboratory for a thorough analysis.

“The result shows that the acidity and alkalinity of the water and the residual aluminum values are within the acceptable standard.

” The findings are clear indication that the water is good and safe for use,” he said.

Badmus said that there was no way the corporation would supply water that did not meet WHO standard to residents. (NAN)
