Lagos, April 20, 2017 (NAN) One Alex Makun, 50, has been brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s under-age daughter.

The accused, who resides at 10, Yaya Abatan road, Ifako, suburb of Lagos, is charged for defilement.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed in December 2016 at the residence of the accused.

Ogu said that the accused called a 12-year-old neighbour’s daughter into his room, on the pretext of sending her on an errand, but shut the door and defiled her.

He told the court that the girl narrated the act to her father, but the accused had already escaped.

Ogu also told the court that the accused absconded after the act to an unknown destination, to avoid arrest or prosecution.

“He was however unlucky when the girl’s father sighted him somewhere and alerted the police and he was apprehended,’’ the prosecutor added.

The offence, Ogu said, contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akanni adjourned the case until May 6, for mention. (NAN)
