Court orders remand of alleged drug trafficker

Abuja, April 12, 2017 (NAN) The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday ordered the remand of 20-year-old Nasiru Ibrahim in Kuje Prison pending the commencement of his trial.
Ibrahim was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a count charge of alleged dealing in 450 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa (a.k.a. Indian hemp).
The charge was read to him in Hausa through an interpreter, and he pleaded not guilty.
Although Ibrahim said that he had a lawyer, the lawyer was absent in court.
Justice B.O. Quadri ordered that he be remanded in prison because there was no application for bail due to the absence of his counsel
Quadri adjourned the matter until May 9. (NAN)
