Jobless man charged with theft of N2.5m iron props

Lagos, April 12, 2017 (NAN) A 36-year-old unemployed man, Seyi Shobowale, who allegedly stole iron props for construction of pipes valued at N2.5 million, was on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides at Ketu area of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha told the court that the offences were committed on March 3 on Anthony Way, Ikeja.

Inuoha said the accused with others now at large went to a construction site and stole some iron props valued at N2.5 million.

“They were caught by members of the vigilance group, while others escaped.”

The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates three years, while Section 409 provides two years imprisonment.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused a bail of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until May 4 for mention. (NAN)
