Attempt
By Teniola Ibitola
Lagos, April 10, 2017 (NAN) For attempting to murder one Lukman Sodiq by stabbing and hacking him with a cutlass, Muniru Olamiji is to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for the next 30 days, an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court ruled on Monday.
The accused, 20, had appeared on a two-count charge of attempted murder and conspiracy.
He entered a not-guilty plea but his bail was denied.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that the accused had attempted to murder one Lukman Sodiq on March 2 at Bogije, Ibeju-Lekki.
He said that the accused had stabbed Sodiq severally on his back, stomach and head with a broken bottle.
The prosecutor also said that the accused had also hacked Sodiq with a cutlass on his face leaving him almost dead.
Iseghede pleaded with the court not to grant the accused bail because the complainant was lying critically ill in a hospital and his chances of survival was slim.
The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 230 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The magistrate, Miss Tolu Idowu, thereafter, ordered that the accused be kept behind bars pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).
The court adjourned the case until May 17. (NAN)
